Landscape artist Juan has been involved with Piece by Piece for just over three years. When he first came to a workshop, he showed everyone his many drawings of beautiful, idyllic nature scenes, all drawn in pencil. His passion for creating was evident and although he may have been new to mosaic, he has since carried his artistic vision over to the medium in very creative ways. His art is inspired by many nature and travel television programs he has watched since his youth. He is fascinated by the art of every culture he has learned about. In Mexico, he had worked on painting with watercolors, acrylics, oils, and sculptures. Modeling (sculpture) in Mexico was his favorite medium while attending the Autonomous University of Guadalajara. Juan shares his enthusiasm and talents with fellow Piece by Piece artists through collaborative and community projects, always willing to jump in and lend a hand where ever needed at every workshop.

Do you have a favorite artist?
I don’t have favorites. I love everything that is art, and I do appreciate all the artists in different levels. Every artist draws or paints different. That’s the reason why I don’t have favorites.

How long have you been attending workshops with Piece by Piece?
I have been coming about three to four years.

What do you love the most about the programs with Piece by Piece?
Everything. You learn so many techniques and develop the art that you have within you. The opportunity to develop even more pieces.

Do you have a favorite workshop?
No, I love everything, because I’ve learned from everything. I love everything, everything, and everything.

Is there a specific mosaic technique that you would like to learn more about?

All of the techniques, because I love it all. Nothing is difficult for me, because I want to learn. You never stop learning. I don’t want to say that I know everything because that’s not true. You can always learn, learn, and learn. Then, when the world sees what you create they say wow! That’s what I love.

What is the most important thing you have learned in a workshop?

How to do things safely in all the workshops, and how to handle equipment with each piece that you create.

What do you bring to Piece by Piece?
My style, collaboration, and my openness to learn more.

Is there anything else you would love to share?
That I love everything, and that there are no limits in learning for those that want to learn. There are no limits. Not even age. The things is that you have to want to learn.
